The Repurposed Pub
For more than two years, we built Chickens of the Caribbean and established Pirate Park in the Charlotte Amalie Historic District of St. Thomas, VI. With intentions of joining local efforts to revitalize this storied neighborhood, we wanted to take things a step further.
Once a defunct parking lot, we had a vision...create a fun and safe family-oriented gathering spot where locals and visitors could kick off their boots, let their hair down, and unwind just a few steps from the sparkling Caribbean sea. With all this in mind, we committed to not only build a restaurant, but also to capture a hearty helping of Caribbean history within our walls.
Over 80% of the Repurposed Pub is built from materials, equipment, and artifacts reclaimed from blown-out buildings, homes, and businesses who were devastated before and during the passing of hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. Rather than see viable timbers and equipment clutter the local landfill, we saw potential and a chance for new life. Yes, some of the pub might seem a bit rustic, but with age comes a story and today it's become a part of ours. We painstakingly milled and restored everything we could find with a team of fewer than eight and brought to life a vibrant neighborhood gem for all to enjoy.
